Loughshee is a typical town in Ireland, complete with amiable doctor, eccentric nun who lives as a hermit in the woods, mad garage-owner who tries to catch angels, and children. Central to the story are Martin the pharmacist, his unhappy wife Helen, and their children Kit and Emmet.
Maeve Binchy was born in County Dublin and came to fame first as London Correspondent for the Irish Times. Her first novel, Light A Penny Candle made her famous in the UK and USA. She lives in County Dublin with her husband, Gordon Snell.
