A History of Terror by Paul Newman
In this illustrated social history of fear, Newman traces many strands of unease, exploring ways it has been projected and dealt with through ritual, religion, literature and social control, and looks at contemporary attempts to deal with fundamental fears through self-help, cults and even the micro-chip.
Paul Newman is a writer and lecturer living in St Austell. For Sutton Publishing he has written Lost Gods of Albion (February 1998). His other works include Somerset Villages, Bath, The Meads of Love, and Murder: an Antidote for Boredom ('an unusual and well-written work of literary criticism', Norman Michael, Tantalus).
