House For a Mouse by Jill Barklem

This board book is just right for toddlers and preschoolers. The gentle rhyming text is perfect for the younger age group. House for a Mouse shows what rooms are to be found in a mouse’s house and what goes on there. We see mice having fun cooking delicious cakes in the kitchen and playing dressing-up games in the playroom. This is a wonderful first book to teach young children all the names of rooms in the home and what goes on in them. This book is illustrated throughout with Jill Barklem’s wonderfully observed paintings from her Brambly Hedge books.

Jill Barklem was drawn to the natural world ever since childhood. While training as an illustrator at St Martin’s School of Art, her long journeys to college gave her time to escape into the imaginary world of a colony of mice, later to be developed as the enchanting miniature world of Brambly Hedge.
