Why are NFL and NBA players protesting by kneeling?

Colin Kaepernick, Lebron James, Michael Bennett, and other NFL and NBA players are making their feelings known for the same reason we heard from Rosa Parks, Muhammad Ali, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., and other non-violent African American protesters in the past. Their goal is to put an end to racial injustice and to remind us all that: Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere. Far too many Americans feel that if young African American males who are confronted by police would have stayed out of trouble, stayed in school, and cooperated fully when confronted by police, many would never be arrested, falsely accused, or become a victim of police shootings. Americans are convinced that police officers would never arrest an innocent, law-abiding African American college student, an individual who is a college baseball player, an honor student on the dean's list, and one who has received a number of scholarshipsand commendations for outstanding character and for helping the less fortunate. Unfortunately, they are wrong It happens more often than we realize, as highlighted in the Sean Perryman case, a case featured in this explosive book:
