The Italian Achievement by Arturo Barone
The Italians have been responsible for many well-known first - the inventions of Leonardo da Vinci and Galileo Galilei spring to mind - but there are many more who deserve much wider recognition. This book lists over 1000 'Firsts', and gives references to validate its claims. It also puts Italians and their achievements in international context.
Arturo Barone was born in London in 1933 of Neapolitan parents but from the age of six lived and studied in Rome where he took his first law degree. He married his wife Laura (who comes from Turin) in 1963. Today, they live in Hertfordshire. After his studies in Rome, he read law at the University of London and was called to the Bar in 1961. In 1967, he became a practising solicitor and made international law a speciality, including Italian law. Arturo Barone is also the author of The Comfort of Sin (1995) and The Divorce Dilemma (2000), under his pen-name James Goodall.
