Java by Walter Savitch
For Introductory Computer Science Programming courses using Java (CSI with Java). Best-selling author, Walter Savitch, uses a conversational style to teach programmers problem solving and programming techniques with Java. Readers are introduced to object-oriented programming and important computer science concepts such as top-down design, debugging, style, and abstract data types. The Java coverage is a concise, accessible introduction that covers key language features. Thorough early coverage of objects is included, with an emphasis on applications over applets. Prof. Savitch includes a highly flexible format that allows instructors and readers to adapt coverage of topics to their order of preference. This text assumes no previous programming experience.Walter Savitch earned his Ph.D. from the University of Chicago. In 1969, he earned a bachelor's degree in mathematics from the University of California in Berkeley. Since then, he has been a member of the University of California at San Diego's faculty, where he is currently a Professor of Computer Science and the Director of the Multidisciplinary Ph.D. program. Cognitive Science is a program. Complexity theory, formal language theory, computational linguistics, and the development of computer science education materials are among Professor Savitch's research interests.
He has published a number of well-known computer science textbooks, including Pascal, Ada, and C++ CS1 and CS2 textbooks, in addition to several research articles and involvement in other editorial projects. Kenrick Mock is an Associate Professor at the University of Alaska Anchorage and a contributing author. In addition, he has taught at Washington State University, Portland State University, and the University of California Davis. He teaches introductory C++, Java, Visual Basic(r) for non-programmers, algorithms, computer security, and artificial intelligence to undergraduate computer science students across the curriculum.
He assisted in the development of a computer system for study on Alaska sea ice and the atmosphere at UAA's Coastal Marine Institute. Mock worked at Intel as a research scientist and software engineer before becoming a teacher. UC Davis awarded him a doctorate in computer science.
