When he was four years old, Robert Barr (1850-1912) emigrated with his family from Scotland to Ontario, where he spent his formative years. In 1876, he immigrated to the United States and joined the staff of the Detroit Free Press. He traveled to England in 1881 and worked as a co-editor with Jerome K. till 1911. Jerome, a member of the Idler. Barr's novels, short tales, and articles were well-known and widely read in the late nineteenth century, both in Canada and internationally, despite the fact that they have become largely unfamiliar to contemporary students of Canadian literature.
