Ian McGibbon is a senior historian with the History Group of the Ministry for Culture and Heritage and is New Zealand's foremost military historian. He was involved in the inception of the Dictionary of New Zealand Biography and was Managing Editor of the New Zealand Historical Atlas. Editor of The Oxford Companion to New Zealand Military History, he has many books to his credit. In 1997 he was appointed ONZM for services to historical research.
