Journey to Impact by Veronica Colondam

Veronica Colondam established the YCAB Foundation in Jakarta, Indonesia in 1999. YCAB stands for Yayasan Cinta Anak Bangsa, which translates from Indonesian to English as 'Loving the Nation's Children Foundation'. The foundation is dedicated to the betterment of children's lives through education and financial assistance. Veronica's and YCAB's stories are inextricably intertwined and Journey to Impact tells both. Veronica is open and honest about the steep learning curve she encountered in the early years of YCAB, detailing what she learnt from her failures and struggles, as well as how she achieved her successes. In 2001, Veronica became the youngest-ever recipient of the UN-Vienna Civil Society Award, which elevated YCAB's image, especially in the media, and made the foundation's future work possible. Since then, YCAB has developed its three main pillars: Healthy Lifestyle Promotion (HeLP), House of Learning and Development (HoLD), and Hands-on Operation for Entrepreneurship (HOpE). Under these three pillars, YCAB has reached out to more than 3 million underprivileged youths, by providing soft-skills training to more than 2.5 million teenagers, granting mission-driven micro-financing to more than 66,000 mothers so that they can afford to send their children to school, enabling almost 35,000 teens to further their education.
Veronica Colondam has been named among Globe Asia's Most Powerful Women in Indonesia (2007), Asia's Change Maker (2009) and the Asian of the Year (2010) by Channel NewsAsia, and among the 10 Most Inspiring Women in Indonesia and one of Asia's 48 Philanthropists (both 2015) by Forbes. She was the Ernst & Young Social Entrepreneur of the Year (2011), the Schwab Foundation's Social Entrepreneur (2012) and one of the UN Solution Makers (2017).
