On the facing page is a concise description of the breed's origins and its history. For many for the breeds Jack gives a description of their personality, egg laying and flying abilities and how they are best kept.
Jack Byard was born in Bradford in Yorkshire where he has lived and worked all his life. He always had a deep affection for his rural heritage and so wrote his first book, Know Your Sheep, with a view to sharing with others the countryside that he loves.
