Erik is noted for his straightforward and amusing writing style, as the author of the O'Reilly popular seller Learning XML and several essays for technical publications. He enjoys playing card games, reading about hemorrhagic fevers, practicing Buddhist meditation, and collecting toys when he is not writing code. He and his wife Jeannine live in Saugus, Massachusetts, with their seven parrots.
