Her most recent novel, Life After Life, was a New York Times bestseller, and five of her books have been named New York Times Notable Books. The New England Booksellers Award, the John Dos Passos Prize for Excellence in Literary, and the North Carolina Award for Literature have all been bestowed upon her. She has contributed to magazines such as the New York Times Book Review, the Washington Post, the Boston Globe, Garden and Gun, the Atlantic, and others.
She was a Briggs-Copeland Lecturer in Fiction at Harvard University, where she also served as chair of the creative writing department. She is presently a member of the Bennington College Writing Seminars faculty and a graduate student at North Carolina State University's MFA program.
