Liquidation by Imre Kertesz

Budapest was the birthplace of Imre Kertesz (1929-2016). He was transferred to Auschwitz when he was fourteen years old, and from there to Buchenwald, where he was freed in 1945. After he returned to Hungary, he worked for a Budapest newspaper until 1951, when it was forced to follow the Communist party line. He began supporting himself as an independent writer and translator after serving in the military for two years. Kertesz garnered numerous literary awards over his career as an author, including the Nobel Prize in Literature in 2002. His books have been translated into German, Spanish, French, English, Czech, Russian, Swedish, and Hebrew, among others.
