Some days words come easily to us, and insights seem to spring up from some secret sanctuary to surprise and delight, leaving us wondering at hidden resources within. On other days we feel lost for words, with insights buried under a mountain of routine concerns. We all need help on dull days when reserves are low and this volume has been assembled not as a substitute for your best thinking, but as a humble help for those days when you feel a bit weary and out of inspiration. It aims to provide a line, an image, a thought--a trigger to set the mind in movement toward the Gospel.

Since 1973, Redemptorist Publications have produced the quarterly publication The Living Word as a resource for those who preach and lead the liturgy. At the heart of this publication are the homily reflections written for each Sunday and feast day. One of the strengths of these throughout the years is that they have been written by a variety of people--priests, religious, and lay--from a wide range of different backgrounds and with a diversity of pastoral and personal experience.

In this volume, covering each of the Sundays and solemnities in the three-year cycle of the Catholic Lectionary, we have brought together a selection of homilies and reflections on the scriptures from The Living Word. We hope that it will be helpful to those preparing homilies and those who simply want to explore and reflect on the scriptures.
