The Lost Villages of Britain by Richard Muir
font-size: 10pt">In an age when building developments seem to be advancing on every small plot of unspolit countryside, it seems hard to imagine times when well-established settlements were declining and dying. Empty houses only stand at the relatively recent settlements, like failed quarry villages.
RICHARD MUIR has been involved in landscape writing for a quarter of a century. As a result of his work, Dr Muir has recently been awarded life membership of the Yorkshire Dales Society for his ‘outstanding contribution to the understanding of the Dales landscape’. He lives on the fringes of his native Nidderdale.
