Madame Bovary by Gustave Flaubert
Part of the Chiltern Classics range. The realities of married life in a provincial town fall a long way short of Emma Bovary's romantic expectations. To fill the void she embarks on reckless affairs and spends impetuously on the luxuries she had dreamed of. But when her debts are called in, Emma must face reality and the consequences are tragic. Chiltern are publishers of exquisitely crafted editions of the world’s finest classic literature. These beautiful books are a perfect mix of tradition and the very latest in printing techniques. With wonderful original, detailed and embossed covers, sparkling gilt edges, cream art paper, ribbon markers and stitched binding they are simply the most beautiful classics ever published.ossed covers, sparkling gilt edges, cream art paper, ribbon markers and stitched binding they are simply the most beautiful classics ever published.
Flaubert was born in 1821 in Rouen to Achille, a doctor, and Anne. He began writing at a very young age. In the 1840s, after dropping out of law school and the death of his father, Flaubert retired to Croisset with his mother and newly orphaned niece, where he focused on his writing career.
