The Magician of Samarkand by Alan Temperley
Anahita is the beautiful daughter of a saddle-maker, born in the golden city of Samarkand; where people are poor, but happy. Her beauty catches the eye of a young prince and they are destined to be together – until an evil magician appears out of the desert and claims Anahita as a slave. She defies him, but at a price: as in revenge, the magician conjures up a cruel spell to punish everyone in the city. It’s down to brave Anahita to pit her wits against his dark heart and evil magic…
Alan Temperley was born and grew up in Sunderland. As a boy he kept mice, sang in a big church choir, played cricket and enjoyed stories. After a stint in the Merchant Navy he became an English teacher but is now an author whose books have been widely translated and televised.
