Marrying Miss Martha by Anna Jacobs
When Captain Merrivale dies, his daughters Martha and Penelope are left almost penniless. They find employment as schoolteachers in the Lancashire mill town of Tapton working for mill-owner Jonas Wright. They are charged with educating not only his four young daughters, but also some of the more promising mill-workers. On arrival at Tapton, however, they find more than they had bargained for - particularly when Martha finds herself drawn, against her better judgment, to Ben Seaton, the father of one of her charges.Anna Jacobs grew up in Lancashire and moved to Australia in 1973, yet she loves to visit her family in England. She has two adult daughters and lives in a large lakefront property with her husband.
