Theoni Pappas is a mathematician with a passion for the subject. Pappas, a native of California, obtained her B.A. Her M.A. from the University of California, Berkeley, came in 1966. In 1967, he graduated from Stanford University. She spent nearly two decades teaching high school and college mathematics before turning to producing a remarkable series of unique publications that reflect her devotion to demystifying mathematics and making it more approachable.

She dispels mathematical stereotypes and hurdles with her succinct, nonthreatening, and simply understandable language, demonstrating that mathematics is a vibrant universe of exciting concepts that is easily accessible to the layperson. Her arithmetic calendars and more than 19 math books appeal to both children and adults. Three of her works have been chosen for the Book-of-the-Month Club, and her book Joy of Mathematics was named a Pick of the Paperbacks. Her books have been translated into several languages, including Japanese, Finnish, French, Slovakian, Czech, Korean, Turkish, Russian, Thai, simplified and traditional Chinese, Portuguese, Italian, Vietnamese, and Spanish.

Pappas won the Excellence in Accomplishment Award from the University of California Alumni Association in 2000 for her work on mathematics-related books and other innovative items. She resides in Palo Alto, California.
