Me, Myself And Why by Jennifer Ouellette
As diverse as people appear to be, all of our genes and brains are nearly identical. In Me, Myself, and Why, Jennifer Ouellette dives into the miniscule ranges of variation to understand just what sets us apart. She draws on cutting-edge research in genetics, neuroscience, and psychology - enlivened as always with her signature sense of humour-to explore the mysteries of human identity and behaviour. Readers follow her own surprising journey of self-discovery as she has her genome sequenced, her brain mapped, her personality examined and samples hallucinogens.Jennifer Ouellette is a science journalist and the author of The Calculus Diaries, The Physics of the Buffyverse, and Black Bodies and Quantum Cats, among other works. Her work has featured in magazines such as the Washington Post, Discover, Salon, and Nature, among others. Cocktail Party Physics is a science and culture blog she writes for Scientific American. From 2008 to 2010, Ouellette was the director of the National Academy of Sciences' Science and Entertainment Exchange, a program that attempts to stimulate innovative collaborations between scientists and entertainment industry professionals. She has also worked as a journalist in residence at the Santa Barbara-based Kavli Institute of Theoretical Physics and as a teacher at the Santa Fe Science Writing Workshop. Ouellette is a black belt in jujitsu, and she and her husband, Caltech physicist Sean Carroll, live in Los Angeles.
