June Thoburn, CBE, LittD, is a University of East Anglia (UEA) emeritus professor of social work. She became a social worker in 1963 and worked in both England and Canada in local authority child and family social work and generic practice until accepting a joint appointment at UEA in 1979. She has a particular interest in creating new ways to assist social workers use knowledge from a variety of sources in their practice as a founding director of the UEA Centre for Research on the Child and Family and the Making Research Count collaboration. Julie Taylor, PhD, FRCN, RN, MSc, BSc (Hons), is a child maltreatment expert and nurse scientist. She is a professor of child protection at the University of Birmingham's School of Health and Population Science, having previously held seats at the Universities of Edinburgh (NSPCC Child Protection Research Centre) and Dundee (School of Nursing and Midwifery).

She was the National Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children's (NSPCC)'s Head of Strategy and Development (Abuse in High-Risk Families) for three years (2010-2013). She is the author of eight books and more than a hundred academic papers.
