Clare Cowen was born in South Africa and lived in Southern Rhodesia before going to Bristol University. She worked on the newspapers of the Workers Revolutionary Party and its predecessor, the Socialist Labour League, from the late 1960s until the Party’s demise in the 1990s. She lives in south-east London.
