Although the Rev. Sabine Baring-Gould, Victorian squire and parson of Lewtrenchard, wrote two volumes of Reminiscences these are mostly about his ancestors, the places he visited and the people he met. Very little is about himself and his family. Furthermore, a dearth of diaries and letters has made the task of his biographers difficult. Ron Wawman's transcription and in-depth researches of a recently discovered diary and other material, including several crucial collections of letters, have enabled him to put forward some exciting, new perceptions of the life and character of this important Devonian.
