North of the Equator by Cyril Dabydeen
Cyril Dabydeen's new collection of stories, North of the Equator, looks at the polarities of tropical and temperate places. Acclaimed novelist Sam Selvon (The Lonely Londoners)says, "Dabydeen is in the vanguard of contemporary short-story writers, shuttling with equal and consummate skill from rural Guyana to metropolitan Canada."Dabydeen's characters occupy the spaces in between. They live in limbo, stretched between two worlds: one, an adopted home in Canada; the other, a birthplace in the islands scattered across the equator.
Cyril Dabydeen has written numerous books of poetry and fiction, includingHemisphere of Love, Imaginary Origins: Selected Poems, and Play a Song Somebody: Selected Stories. He has also edited A Shapely Fire: Chaning the Lietrary Landscape and Another Way to Dance: Contemporary Asian Poetry in Canada and the US. His work has appeared in numerous magazines in many countries, including Canada, the US, the UK and the Caribbean, and in many antholgies, including Best Canadian Short stories, Caribbean New Wave: Contemporary Short Stories, and The Penguin Book of Caribbean Verse.
Born in Guyana, South America, Dabydeen lives in Ottawa, Canada.
