Portrait Masks from the Northwest Coast of America by J C H King

During the latter part of the 1800s it became a practice of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints to rescue native American children who were abandoned or were being used for barter. Lamana Rose was one of those children. She was bartered for two sacks of potatoes to a farmer in a small Utah community. Journey with Lamana Rose as she goes from a frightened, bewildered small child to a confident, intelligent woman. Love of a good family and a caring community, along with a good education, worked the miracle.
