This book reports on the reconaissance and survey of the prehistoric settlement site at the modern fishing town of Puerto L pez, Canton Jipijapa, in the southern Manab province of Ecuador. The earliest recorded occuaption of the prehistooric site of L pez Viejo pertains to the Early Formative period Valdivia culture (c. 3500 BC-1500 BC). Subsequent settlement pertains to the Engoroy Culture, the Bah a and Guangala Cultures (c 300 BC-AD 800) and the Manteno Culture (AD 800- AD 1532). Subsequent chapters discuss the archaeological excavations with a preliminary summary of occupation, and analysis of the finds.
