Starting with magnetic circuits which form an integral part of electrical machines, the book goes on to cover transformers and the general principles of energy conversion. The book then extensively discusses different types of electrical machines—dc machines, three-phase induction machines, and three-phase synchronous machines; single-phase motors, which are widely used in household and office appliances; and special motors such as servomotors, linear synchronous motors, brushless DC motors, switched reluctance motors, synchro motors, and stepper motors. Using a gradational approach, the first few sections in each chapter are devoted to the basic principles of operation, and later sections are devoted mostly to a more detailed study of the particular machine.
