Rabbit Novels, Volume 2 by John Updike

One of the most remarkable developments in the last twenty years has been the revival of the idea of deliberative democracy. Set against models of democracy derived from economics, such as the theory of rational choice, the idea of decision-making based on public deliberations among free and equal citizens, represents a highly significant development in democratic theory. This book explores this development, providing a fresh and original perspective on a theme at the center of current debates in democratic theory and practice. Such debates have originated in response to growing demands for fair treatment by groups claiming recognition of their collective identity.

In 1954, John Updike graduated from Harvard College and spent a year at the Ruskin School of Drawing and Fine Art in Oxford, England. He was a member of The New Yorker's staff from 1955 until 1957. He has won the Pulitzer Prize and the National Book Award for his works. Updike earned the Rea Prize for Short Fiction in 2006, and the PEN/Faulkner Award for Fiction for his Early Tales (1953-1975). In January 2009, he passed away.
