Giles Sparrow FRAS studied astronomy at University College, London, and science communication at Imperial College, before embarking on a career in publishing. Starting out as an editor, he worked on various popular reference books, including DK's Eyewitness series, as well as their Space Encyclopedia and Dinosaur Encyclopedia. He is now a popular science author with a string of beautiful and successful books for adults and children under his belt, including DK's bestselling Universe: The Definitive Visual Guide, the Exploring the Solar System series for Heinemann, the successful Cosmos (2006) for Quercus, and many others.
