The Red Seas Volume 1: Under the Banner of King Death by Ian Edginton
When Pirate Captain Jack Dancer and the crew of the Red Wench raid a Spanish galleon they little realise that within their plunder lies the missing chapter of a feared occult tome listing the nine million names of God. Dr Orlando Doyle, a fearsome sorcerer, has the rest of the book and together with his zombie crew he plans to retrieve the missing piece of this infernal puzzle. Using any means at his disposal he intends to utilise the dreaded book in a devilish deal to bring about the downfall of creation itself! Written by Ian Edginton (Scarlet Traces, Richard Matheson's Hell House) and illustrated by Steve Yeowell (Zenith, The Invisibles), The Red Seas is an irreverent take on the pirate yarn spiced with full-blooded horror.
Ian Edginton is a relatively recent name to appear in 2000 AD, but like his Leviathan and Scarlet Traces co-creator D'Israeli, his impact has been immediate. Debuting with occult pirate series The Red Seas, Edginton has gone on to create the aforementioned series as well as Interceptor. He has also written Judge Dredd, a Kleggs one-off, and Strange Cases. Edginton's work prior to coming to the Galaxy's Greatest Comic covers a wide range of genres - from Dark Horse's Aliens series to The Authority, Blade, Deadline, The Establishment, Foxfire, Planet of the Apes, Ultraforce and Terminator. Steve Yeowell has been a massively popular 2000 AD artist, since his debut as artist of the classic Zenith. He is also cocreator of Maniac 5, Red Fang, Red Razors and The Red Seas, and has pencilled Armitage, Black Light, DeMarco, Devlin Waugh, Future Shocks, Judge Dredd, A Life Less Ordinary, Nikolai Dante, Pussyfoot 5, The Scarlet Apocrypha, Sinister Dexter, Tharg the Mighty and Vector 13. His work outside the Galaxy's Greatest Comic includes Batman, Doom Patrol, The Invisibles, Sebastian O, Skrull Kill Krew, Starman and X-Men. P.
