Relative Values by Phil Whitney

Forced out of work in England during the depression, young Max Caddick makes his way down to Italy to see more of the art that has always fascinated him. Fifty years later, recent graduate Paul Caddick goes to Florence to teach English and hopes to find out more about his mysterious Italian grandmother. Once there, he is surprised to find that mention of the family name provokes hostility and it is soon clear that most people would prefer the past to remain forgotten. Undeterred, Paul discovers that the family history is darker than he could have ever imagined.

Whitney, Phil: - A graduate in Italian and History of Art at the University of Leeds, Phil lived in Italy for five years and, having an Italian wife, has spent approximately five weeks each year in Italy since returning to live in England. Over the years, he has: worked at the University of Florence teaching translation skills, dictation and the seventeenth century English novel; taught English as a Foreign Language; qualified as a Chartered Accountant and worked as a tax specialist; taught English and Media Studies for seventeen years in the English state school system; been a local councillor and parliamentary election agent. Since 2014, he has been primarily an author and translator.
