
Reversing Lower Attainment by Diane Montgomery
First Published in 1998. All learners and in particular lower attainers need to have a curriculum which is cognitively challenging, motivating and enriching. This book aims to help teachers adapt their teaching strategies so that they can offer such a curriculum, especially to lower attainers. The nature of lower attainment is examined in its various forms in the highly able, the slower learner, the dyslexic and disaffected. The origins of these problems and how they may be identified are also discussed. An evaluation of the different curriculum models and methos of differentiation is provided and the author outlines the general principles and practices of good teaching with reference to a wide range of curriculum areas.
Diane Montgomery is a qualified teacher, chartered psychologist and Emeritus Professor of Education at Middlesex University where she was formerly Dean of Faculty and Head of the School of Education. Professor Montgomery is Director of the Learning Difficulties research Project in Maldon and Course Leader and author of two distance learning programmes for Middlesex, the MA SEN and MA SpLD. An EBD and MA High Ability Studies are in preparation.
She has books published on Classroom Observation, Reversing Lower Attainment, Spelling and Handwriting: Spelling: Remedial Strategies: Educating the Able; Managing Behaviour Problems; Learning Difficulties; Classroom Management; Appraisal; Teaching Learning and Strategies - Study Skills; and Early Reading Skills.
She is a member of the government Advisory Group on the Gifted and Talented and Editor-in-Chief of the NACE journal Educating Able Children.
