Roots and routes by Brendan Cardiff
A memoir of Brendan Cardiff that describes the characters, landscapes and formative events during Ireland's remarkable late twentieth century renaissance. Starting with a nostalgic reflection on his upbringing in a historically rich corner of Dublin near the Phoenix Park, it recalls an eventful and eclectic career in Ireland and on the continent.
Brendan Cardiff grew up near the Phoenix Park in Dublin and received his Master's at UCD and then an MBA at Louvrain University in Belgium. He spent several summers as a tour guide in Rome and also worked for JWTours as a winter sports guide in the Alps. He then worked for several years at the Institute for Public Administration in Dublin and the Industrial Development Authority before moving to Brussels to work for the European Commission as a policy analyst from the mid-1970s until his retirement in 2004. An inveterate traveller and keen photographer, he has chronicled his many visits to far-flung parts of the globe with striking photographs of exotic places, many of which appear in this memoir.
