Bob Powell was an American comic book artist who worked primarily during the Golden Age of the medium. Stanley Robert Pawlowski was born in New York City and attended the Pratt Institute before joining the Eisner-Iger studios in the late 1930s. Through these studios, he worked for a variety of businesses, including Fiction House (Jumbo Comics), Fox (Wonderworld Comics, Mystery Men Comics), Harvey (Ted Parrish in Speed Comics), Timely, Quality (Crack Comics, Hit Comics, Military Comics, Smash Comics, Feature Comics), and Timely, Quality (Crack Comics, Hit Comics, Military Comics, Smash Comics, Feature Comics). During his Eisner-Iger years, his most recognized work was Sheena, which he produced for Fiction House's Jumbo Comics. Powell later worked in Will Eisner's own studio, where he co-created Spirit of 76 for Harvey's Pocket Comics and co-plotted the first Blackhawk story in Quality's Military Comics.

Powell took over the artwork of the Mr Mystic back-up feature, which was written by Eisner, when the Spirit Sunday Comic Book part began in 1940. Powell eventually took over the writing as well, and he maintained Mystic until 1943, when he entered the Air Force. S. Pawlowski replaced Stanely Pawlowski as his legal name. Powell, Robert, in 1943.
