Seeds of Greatness by Jon Canter
Two friends grow up in a North London Jewish suburb. Jack is wayward and devious and gets expelled from school. David is bright and parent-pleasing and destined for great things. But it's Jack who gets rich and famous as a TV chat-show host, while David earns peanuts working in a Suffolk bookshop.
Jon Canter was born in 1953 and grew up in Golders Green. His father was a solicitor and his mother a housewife. He studied law at Cambridge before becoming an advertising copyriter then a TV and radio scriptwriter. Among the comedians he's worked with are Lenny Henry, Rowan Atkinson, Mel Smith and Griff Rhys Jones, Dawn French, Arabella Weir, Stephen Fry and Hugh Laurie. He lives in Suffolk with his wife, the painter Helen Napper, and their daughter Nancy. Seeds of Greatness is his first novel.
