Shadows of the Rainbow by Melanie Price

This is the true story of a woman born in London in the early 1950's who, deserted by her mother, and raised in care, has struggled to find her true identity. Taken as a wife into the Romany culture in 1960's England, Melanie was thrust into a whole new world. She fully embraced their traditional ways and at the tender age of fifteen had already become a devoted wife and mother. She was hidden away for fear of the authorities finding her. Sadly over the ensuing years disillusionment set in. She realised that she needed to find out the truth. A yearning for knowledge of her true parentage burned in her heart. Maybe it would set her free from the social shackles that had bound her to this life she dreamed of escaping from.
