The Shore Beyond by Mary Joslin
Clara lives by the big river. She longs to travel to the shore she can hardly see. As she grows older, she begins to journey, but is always longing to go to yet more distant shores. But she ends up wondering where she can find a place where she is truly content. The book ends with her being shown a way of searching for the place that will be her heart's eternal home. 'A fine example of literature as a place for entertaining and exploring ideas and possibilities. It presented notions of life as a journey which encompasses awareness, seeking, searching, finding a purpose or something of ultimate value.' RE Today Magazine
Mary Joslin is married and has 3 grown up children. She began writing when her own children were still young and has since written books that have been published throughout the world. For Lion these include Our Father, The Tale of the Heaven Tree, Do the Angels Watch Close By?, The Merchant Enticed by the Pearl of Great Price and The Story of the Cross. She likes kayaking, canoeing and gardening. Alison Jay's haunting illustrations evoke a mood that hovers between the reality of this world and the mystery of heaven. Her major books include The Lion Treasury of Children's Prayers and Brian Patten's Emma's Doll (Penguin). She is winner of the 1999 Association of Illustration/Transworld Award.
