Siegfried Sassoon by Jean Moorcroft Wilson

The definitive biography of one of the twentieth century's finest poets, Siegfried Sassoon - The Making of a War Poet is based on 7 years of detailed research by Jean Moorcroft Wilson. Published to great critical acclaim, this first volume covers Sassoon's life up until the end of the First World War. Wilson has unearthed many private and unpublished letters and papers, which have enabled her to embark on the journey towards self-knowledge that Sassoon himself felt that he could never take.
"'A compelling tale' Ian Hamilton, Sunday Telegraph 'Based on years of research and well-fuelled by Sassoon's family and friends who granted Wilson access to a mass of private papers, this is the first volume of what promises to be the definitive biography of an important and neglected poet' Robert Nye, The Scotsman"
Jean Moorcroft Wilson lectures in English Literature at Birkbeck College, London University. She is married to Virginia Woolf's nephew, with whom she runs a publishing house. Her previous books include two other biographies of First World War poets; Charles Hamilton Sorley and Isaac Rosenberg: Poet and Painter, She is considered the foremost expert on Siegfried Sassoon.
