The present work is intended to assist academics, researchers and proponents of online learning and teaching.  Academics will be able to share the findings presented in this book, and the Social Networking and Education Model (SNEM), with their students (i.e. Masters and PhD). It is envisaged that this book will assist researchers and anyone interested in online learning to understand the opportunities and risks associated with the use of Social Networking in the education sector, and assist them to implement SN by means of the new SNEM model. The reader will benefit from our examinations of the risks and opportunities associated with the use of Social Networking in the education sector in various regions around the world: Asia-Pacific, Europe, Mediterranean, America, Middle East and the Caribbean. In addition, a Social Networking and Education Model (SNEM) will be developed to promote and implement Social Networking in the education sector.

Dr. Ifenthaler is a professor at the University of Mannheim, Germany. His research interests focus on the learning-dependent progression of mental models, problem solving, decision-making, situational awareness, and emotions. He developed an automated and computer-based methodology for the assessment and analysis of graphical and natural language representations (SMD Technology), components of course management software and educational simulation games (DIVOSA, SEsim). He is also interested in the development of educational software and learning management systems (LMS). Pedro Isa as is a professor at the Universidade Aberta (Portuguese Open University) in Lisbon, Portugal, responsible for several courses and director of the master degree program in Electronic Commerce and Internet since its start in 2003. He is co-founder and president of IADIS International Association for Development of the Information Society, a scientific non-profit association. He holds a PhD in Information Management (in the speciality of information and decision systems) from the New University of Lisbon.
