Speedway first saw the light of day in Great Britain on 19 February 1928 at High Beech. Since then, speedway has spread throughout the country, but the South-East remains the heart of the sport. This book relates the history of the region's many famous tracks, recounting classic races and famous riders.Norman Jacobs, who spent 37 years at the British Museum, is now retired. He formed the Clacton & District Local History Society and served as its chairman for 27 years. He also assists with the running of the Clacton Museum. He is the secretary of the Essex Archaeological and Historical Congress and was previously head of The Museums in Essex Committee. He travels across Essex and East London giving speeches on various parts of Clacton's history.
