Set in the 1950s, "A Taste of Honey" deals with the complex, conflict-ridden relationship between a teenage girl and her mother.Shelagh Delaney was born in the Lancashire town of Salford. She is best known for her play A Taste of Honey, which received both the Foyle's New Play Award and the New York Drama Critics Circle Award. She and Tony Richardson co-wrote the screenplay for the film version, for which she received the British Film Academy Award and the Robert Flaherty Award. Other screenplays she's written include The White Bus and Charley Bubbles, for which she earned a Writers Guild Award. She's also published a book of short stories and has written for television and radio. In 2011, she passed away.
