Topaz Steals the Show by Helen Bailey
Topaz L'Amour is ecstatic - she's won a place at the Precious Gems Stage School! But in the competitive world of show business, singing into a hairbrush and tap dancing on the bathroom floor with drawing pins in your trainers count for nothing. Topaz quickly learns that life at stage school is hard work. Topaz's new friends at Precious Gems have to deal with their own problems: Sapphire longs for her movie-star mother to take an interest in her life and accept that she doesn't want to go into show business. Ruby would love to perform but can't get over her crippling stage fright. And Topaz doesn't just have to cope with lack of experience and training - the scheming and ambitious Octavia Quaver, from Rhapsody's Theatre Academy, is doing her best to steal the limelight. Follow the trials, tears, tribulations and eventual triumph of Topaz and her friends, as they try to make their dreams come true.
Helen Bailey was born and brought up in Northumberland, a county she still regards as home. Barely into her teens, Helen invested her pocket money in buying a copy of The Writers' and Artists' Yearbook and spent the next few years sending short stories and poems to anyone she could think of. Much to her surprise, she sometimes found herself in print. After a degree in science, Helen worked in the media and now runs a successful London-based character licensing agency handling internationally renowned properties such as Snoopy, Felicity Wishes, Dilbert and Zorro. With her dachshund, Rufus, and her husband, she now divides her time between London and Broadstairs on the Kent coast.
