Ultima Thule by Rhona Rauszer

The thirty stories fall into three distinct sections: the first section's stories are set in South Skye, the home of the ancestral clans; the middle section covers experiences and encounters away from the island; the final section deals with life in the northern peninsula of Trotternish on Skye. The vernacular Gaelic arises naturally in the stories and the meanings of phrases or words are included in a glossary and basic guide to pronunciation.
Rhona Rauszer (nee Mackinnon) spent the summers of her childhood in Skye. She served in the WRNS throughout the war, and performed with ENSA in France and Germany. She became a professional actress and made numerous contributions to BBC Scottish Home Service radio from 1938 to 1968. In 1968 she moved permanently to Skye to concentrate on her writing and painting.
