Eugene Atget (1857-1927) was a French photographer who combined documentary realism with an undeniable poetic vision in his images of Paris's tiny streets, parks, store windows, and characters. Atget came to the notice of Man Ray and Berenice Abbott and their avant-garde circle near the end of his life, and became a source of inspiration for the Surrealists in Paris.
