A Voyage to War by Hugh Dulley
A unique firsthand account of pre-war life in Hong Kong. The book provides an analysis of the war in Europe, the Chinese and Japanese conflict in the 1930s and the United States position in the Far East and argues that the invasion should never have taken place.
Hugh Dulley was born in the Philippines in 1940, and subsequently evacuated to Australia for the duration of WW2. He followed his father to Westminster School and rowed at Henley. Most of his career was in NHS management. He holds an MA in Applied Psychology, which proved valuable later for researching, writing and editing papers in the NHS, and latterly studying history and archaeology. He has revisited Hong Kong and Australia on a number of occasions. Peter Dulley was born in Wellingborough, Northamptonshire in 1903. He gained a scholarship to Westminster and then worked in London. His passion for rowing and the water led him to compete in the Paris Olympics in 1924. He joined Jardine Matheson in Hong Kong in 1930 and, as a result of sailing, the Hong Kong Royal Naval Reserve. Peter was called up at the outbreak of World War 2 and was killed during the Japanese invasion of Hong Kong in 1941.
