World War I and II Tanks by George Forty
The tank was initially developed as a new weapon to break the stalemate on the Western Front after the First Battle of Ypres in 1914. This illustrated book begins with a history of the tank, from the first tank action in World War I to campaigns of World War II such as Blitzkrieg and D-Day. It includes a A-Z guide to tanks from 1916-45.
Lieutenant Colonel (Retired) George Forty, OBE, FMA, served in the Royal Tank Regiment for 32 years, seeing active service in Korea. Ten years later he commanded an armoured reconnaissance squadron on operations in Aden, the Persian Gulf and Borneo. After leaving the Army, he was appointed Director and Curator of the world-famous Tank Museum in Bovington, Dorset, England. He has written over 70 books, and has edited the Regimental journal Tank since 1993.
