Writer's Handbook Guide to Crime Writing by Barry Turner
This guide looks at how to write a successful crime novel - from critical points in development, including story setting, creating characters, building suspense, use of sex and violence, the importance of research and the basic rules of story construction - to how to get published.
Barry Turner has worked on both sides of publishing, as a journalist and author, editor and marketing director. He started his career as a teacher before joining The Observer and then moving on to radio and television. His first book, a study of British politics in the early twentieth century, was published in 1970. He has written over twenty books, including A Place in the Country, which inspired a television series, as well as a bestselling biography of actor Richard Burton. He has been editor of The Writer's Handbook for over twenty years. He lives in north London.
