Carita runs away when her stepfather insists on her marrying old Lord Stilbury, and whilst seeking somewhere to stay for the night she sees a stranger fall from his horse. When the man regains consciousness, Carita discovers that he, too, is fleeing a plot that will trick him into marriage.
