Geoffrey Hill's new book consists of 120 12-line poems, one for each of the 120 days of Sodom. Beautiful, ferocious, sometimes savagely funny, they lament a dark, violent century that has just passed. The book may be seen as the completion of a trilogy that began with CANAAN and THE TRIUMPH OF LOVE. 'The reader winces at, and then is astonished by, the force and humour of SPEECH! SPEECH!' Harold Bloom
