Summary

South Africa, 1900. The bloody conflict between the forces of the British Empire and the Boer farmers seemed to have ended in victory for Queen Victoria's soldiers. But Boer commandos have emerged with a new type of warfare- hit-and-run guerrilla tactics. The British General Kitchener persuades Simon Fonthill to fight the Boers at their own game.

Fire Across the Veldt by John Wilcox

1900. South Africa. Simon Fonthill, along with his wife Alice, old friend Jenkins, and tracker Mzingeli, is travelling across the continent to Pretoria to meet with General Kitchener. When their train is derailed by hostile Boer forces the quartet are forced to continue their journey on horseback, but are quickly targeted and surrounded by Boer commando leader General de Wet and his soldiers. Fonthill must rejoin the British military and prove his ability as a commander, as he leads the battle to find and capture the elusive Boer leaders.

About John Wilcox

After a number of years working as a journalist, John Wilcox was lured into industry. In the mid-nineties he sold his company in order to devote himself to his first love, writing. His Simon Fonthill novels have been published to high acclaim and he has also published two works of non-fiction. John sadly passed away in 2018.
